OBITUARY The sad and untimely demise of Engr. Chaudhary Muhammad Rashid and his affectionate wife Mrs. Ruqia is highly lamented by the Thalassaemia Family. The unfortunate accident occurred due to the gas heater in their bedroom catching fire on 25th January 2013. Chaudhary Rashid was deeply associated with the Pakistan Thalassaemia Welfare Society since its very inception in 1991, and it was with his guidance and entirely gratis cooperation that the “Thalassaemia House” was constructed as a most modern and self contained building. Even after the building was completed his supervision and guidance for its maintenance continued till the Almighty separated him from us. Chaudhary Rashid was born in 1935 in a modest family in Amritsar. It was due to his personal efforts that he graduated from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and later won a scholarship to study at the University of Melbourne (Australia), where he obtained the degree of M.Sc (Architecture) with high honours. On his return he was posted to the Designing branch GHQ, Cabinet Division, Joint Secretary Ministry of Defence, Joint Secretary Ministry of Communications. Chaudhary Rashid on retirement devoted all his energy, expertise and capabilities to the welfare of the country and its down trodden masses on a gratis basis. He was deeply committed to the following social welfare organizations.
