OBJ vs GEJ Since the return to Democracy in 1999, Nigeria has had 3 presidents and lots of Strong contenders for the Presidency. out of all of them, 2 very key figures- Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan have been prominent, both serving terms as presidents. Aside their performances which surely have large differences, their level of acceptance and political styles need comparison- bearing in mind that OBJ has somewhat been influential in some important decision makings since 2003 and some still regard him as influential in the forthcoming 2015 elections---- even though I personally dont Lets compare them. OBJ 1999--- The Military brought OBJ from Jail (a self acclaimed poor man) and forced him on Nigeria- in a move that sought to pacify the South-West for the election robbery and murder of MKO Abiola. He was rejected at home soil; South West. GEJ 2007--- Despite being an elected Gov, GEJ was given a clean economic and corruption free bill by the EFCC and unexpectedly, made VP candidate. OBJ 1999-2003--- OBJ was not in charge of running the affairs of the country, the wand was in the hands of the then VP; Atiku Abubakar, who in turn used the advantage of OBJs political incompetence to loot the country and maneuver the party. GEJ 2007- 2011-- GEJ, though the VP was partially in charge of the country due to Yaraduas illness and constant travels abroad for medical treatment. As a matter of fact, without lobbying, begging or schemings- rather due to pressure, GEJ was sworn in as acting president. OBJ 2003 Election--- Atiku was hell bent and overly desperate to become president, he had the Govs on his side. OBJ the incumbent, had to beg by prostrating for Atiku before Atiku could shelve his ambition. He had to beg the PDP machinery. He had to beg and strike deals with AD Govs in South West, a move that led to serious back-stabbing and high classed election riggings. Nobody begged OBJ to re-contest, because there was absolutely NOTHING to show for this 1st 4yrs in office. GEJ 2011---- After showing signs of Humility and Dedication to national cause, GEJ was naturally fitting as president. He got virtually support from all and sundry, (even OBJ) without having to persuade, beg, fight, lobby anybody. It was a smooth sail. OBJ 2003-2007--- OBJ spent most of his 2nd term fighting, instead of sitting down to control the tide of the country. From his VP, who he (OBJ) succeeded in rendering useless as VP,- to Govs who he perceived as being too influential in the party PDP and those he had axe to grind with for opposing his 2nd term bid,- to ministers in his cabinet who were becoming too popular for his liking;- to even Priests;- to media houses---- during his (OBJ) time, the political scape witnessed many unresolved (till date) political assassinations. The economy nose dived. Nigerias rating in bad areas such as corruption, rights abuse etc sky-rotted. To make matters WORSE-- OBJ fruitlessly tried to force himself in power by attempting an illegal 3rd term bid, which was roundly shot down. GEJ 2011-2015--- As soon as GEJ settled in as president in 2011, he had his plan from the word go- tagged Transformation, and hit it straight. There was a lot of work to do, a lot of rot in the system, a lot of dead infrastructures. From Power, to Rail, to Aviation, to Roads, to Agriculture, to Education, the Economy etc. GEJ set down to work. From the day the election results were announced, a class of people declared war on GEJ and the country at large. The battle field was a section of the North. The foundation for the battle, kick started from the main loser of the 2011 election, Gen Buhari, who called on his northern people to defend their votes with their blood, and some foolishly did. But within 3yrs of being in office, there has been positive results staring at people in the face. A lot of dead segments of the economy and infrastructure came alive. The rails worked. Agriculture boomed. Industrialization heavily came alive, so much Nigeria became investors favorite destination. Large developments in the power sector. Aviation upgraded Oil and Gas stabilized Roads became smooth. etc etc. Then, the political atmosphere became very charged. For the 1st time since 1999, there arose a contending opposition, (though some have said this opposition is a coalition of unjustly aggrieved people) GEJ calmly overcame the internal wranglings within his party, took control and allowed the sail continue without the party having a single scratch. Instead, the party became stronger. Now- unlike OBJ who had to Beg, Fight, Lobby, Blackmail, Prostrate to people to win ticklet. GEJ is having a smoothhhhh sail. Its we the people that are begging him to contest again. Within 48hrs, PDP BOT, PDP National Assembly, PDP Govs, Ndigbo, the whole Niger Delta, Retired Military, Pensioners, Students and Me Soji Oseni & my friends at JOSLA (Jonathan Shall Lead Again) - have endorsed Goodluck Jonathan for 2nd term. OBJ didnt have 10% of this love. Atiku has always had to bulldoze 3 times, Buhari tried but failed. We forced IBB out, he tried to come back but was rejected God helped remove Abacha Abdulsalami was smart to read the signs God knows why he took Yaradua The question is why? GEJ has those qualities that a real Nigerian leader requires. 1st- he knows the Nigerian problems and hes tackling them head-on Humility, Fear of God, Honesty, Transparency, Listening, Performance
