ODDATEEE Birthed from the same Bronx streets that birthed hip-hop, Oddateee has been living and breathing this music, being one of the creative voices of the movement over his past two releases. He now returns with his most dynamic performance yet, 1973: Community Development, which has been released on Jarring Effects in late 2013. A more lyrically and beat driven than his past more experimental records, Oddateee goes straight for the the ears with tracks that make you immediately stand up and pay attention to his one-of-a-kind voice. The release sees a diverse set of collaborations that both push his sound forward while keeping one foot in the progressive hip hop sound that initially brought ears to his music. Returning to collaborate with Dälek on “Satellite Tracks”, “Rock N Rap” sees a collaboration with DJ JS-1 from Rock Steady Crew / Rahzel / KRS-One. The record’s mix was done by longtime collaborator Oktopus (Dälek). A new voice blends like it has always been there in for of Skalla who now joins Oddateee during live performances as a constant collaborator, that will also be seen on Skalla’s own release later this year. With all that is old and new on this release, one thing is apparent, the witty lyrics, dark beats and unique atmospheres that have always permeated his music are now more developed and exciting than ever. Hailed by Blow Up as “one of the most dynamic live hip-hop performers we’ve seen in years”, breaking long held traditions, Oddateee more takes on the role of running all of the musical elements while MCing during his live show. While many MCs cower from the idea of doing it all themselves, Oddateee handles it like he was second nature, while still turning out lyrics that the generic crop of MCs that take on the tile could never come near. One thing is for sure, anyone missing this tour this year will be missing some of the most exciting sounds in underground hip hop today.
