ODDS OF A WINTER STORM FOR NEXT WEEKEND INCREASING EUROPEAN MODEL - TopicsExpress

ODDS OF A WINTER STORM FOR NEXT WEEKEND INCREASING EUROPEAN MODEL SHOWS DEEPENING COAST HUGGER I would pull the trigger on a Noreaster Alert however I think we have plenty of time and I want to see one more run of the European. Notice that we consider this the third event in the sequence that began 11/26/2014 with the Thanksgiving Eve Storm, this one has probably more cold air to play with especially for areas closer to the coast. A literal translation of these maps would put heavy snow just northwest of I-95 which would include all of the suburbs of the major cities of Philadelphia New York and Boston. And even for the coast there would probably be a change from rain to snow as colder air gets drawn in on the western side. The European was very impressive to me. The American models will do what they always do in these cases which is play catch up. The key to all of this lies in the strength and position of a storm in the Atlantic at 50N 50W or what we call the 50-50 low. This low will form from Wednesdays event which will bring rain showers to parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and New England...some snow from this system is possible north. How strong that 50-50 low is will ultimately determine the strength and track of this possible storm development for next Sunday.
