OF THOSE THAT SUFFERED UNDER BINGU WAS MUTHARIKA “MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE” ARRESTS GALORE Following the uncharacteristic hullaballoo of last year’s arrests where our friends in DPP run amok because their party gurus were picked on what they have described as politically motivated charges; it may be necessary to remind DPP officials and their supporters that, during their time in government, they arrested many more Malawians on politically – motivated charges. There were several Malawians that were arrested on trivial issues, some were arrested whilst at a hospital bed like Late Ndaila Onani, and others in very strange circumstances. And several others including those arrested in Lilongwe Mosque and in the Eastern Region. Most of those arrested were paraded from Blantyre to Lilongwe and from prison to prison. Some never recovered from the arrests to the extent that they are now late. The famous adage remains true that, what goes round, come around; and those that live by the sword will die, by the sword. The PP government will be better judged by remembering that those that were arrested without reason are compensated fairly and without discrimination. On Dismissals As Malawians, we must not lose sight of the fact that, during the same DPP regime, there were more Malawians that were dismissed without reason other than hailing from the wrong-side of the Country. The Eastern Region, Mangochi, Machinga, Balaka, Ntcheu and Zomba, followed by the North suffered the blunt of these dismiss. Malawians will note that most of those that were dismissed are still waiting for their compensation from the state. It is amazing to hear complaints that some individuals have been unfairly dismissed when infact these people that have been dismissed occupied jobs of individuals that were also dismissed by the DPP regime. Whilst compensation has to be paid for anyone whose services have been terminated without reason, it will be considerate for the State to Commence paying old claimants whilst, the Nampotas, Matabwas, and others wait. If others have waited this long, those newly dismissed should equally wait for some time to allow an orderly treatment of claims by the State.
