OFF TO CAST MY VOTE TOMORROW: HOW ABOUT YOU? Voting or the power to choose who rules the country is the ultimate right that a nation could give its citizens. This is the best part of Indian democracy and if you do not opt for this freedom then you are left to suffer only its worst parts... i.e. the freedom to litter the streets and urinate in public places, freedom to shout slogans or burn few national assets like government offices and busses. If you do not use this privilege then you might as well have been born in China or North Korea... at least you would have been spared the noise, the smell and the chaos even if you were treated like a slave with no say in who governs you and how! Jokes apart, thousands of people around the world are dying as martyrs right this minute so that their people can avail of this very right to choose their own government. Our own leaders more than six decades ago laid down their lives so that we could have this right. Lets honour them tomorrow and lets vote so that India is run by the best Indians we have. I have nothing to tell you regarding who to vote but I will definitely urge you to vote for sure. There are four GOOD leaders from Kargil and Leh and now you have to chose the BEST… Best for Ladakh and for the nation. So rise above narrow regional and religious biases and look at who could earnestly and honestly advocate for Ladakhs issues and represent us best in the parliament. In my own little way I shall celebrate this privilege, by getting up tomorrow morning at 5 and pedaling my way for 5 hours on my little bicycle to reach my little village Ulaytokpo (70 Kms from Leh) and avail of my right and my duty to the nation. I am sure you wont also mind walking a few minutes to the polling booth in your locality. A note of Caution: After reading this, please dont get over-enthusiastic and vote twice... no, not even thrice, just once! :) .
