OFW NEWS: RIYADH – The Ministry of Labor announced a new link (redyellow.sa) at the ministry portal that serves as a data base of foreign workers who are ready to transfer their sponsorship to green and platinum categories. This was stated by senior officials of the ministry during their meeting with prominent businessmen and owners of private firms at the headquarters of Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday evening, Saudi Press Agency reported. The officials also said that the change of sponsorship from one firm to another is possible through the ministry’s online portal, and there is no need to approach the labor office for this service during the current grace period. Profession change can also be made free of charge by taking advantage of the online service link at the site of the Ministry (mol.gov.sa). However, change of profession, for which submission of a profession certificate is required, must be done after appearing the labor office in person. At the meeting, the ministry officials made a detailed presentation about the concessions and facilities that are being made available during the period to correct work and residency status of foreign workers. They also clarified doubts of the attendees and gave them proper guidelines so as to make the correction procedures easier. Those who attended the meet included Fahd Al-Khulaiwi, director general of the ministry’s branch in Riyadh region, and Ahmad Al-Mutawwa, director of labor office in Riyadh region. The officials disclosed that more than 90 percent of the ministry’s services are now available online, and expansion of the service aims at making procedures easier and so that employers can complete the procedures from their companies and offices. The ministry has already issued guidelines for correction procedures in nine languages to make foreigners fully aware of all the details about the procedures that they have to follow to rectify their work and residency status. The officials also spoke about the ministry’s keenness in distributing copies of these guidelines at centers where foreigners are gathering nowadays to correct their status, such as embassies, labor offices, passport offices, and chambers of commerce and industry. Last week, the Directorate General of Passports launched the free online service for the issuance and renewal of residency permits (iqamas). Under the scheme, employers can avail the service without approaching the Passport offices in person.
