OGBU’S GUBER AMBITION DEAD ON ARRIVAL The two times former deputy governor of Ebonyi state and the alleged preferred candidate by Gov. Elechi for the 2015 gubernatorial election in Ebonyi state Prof. Ogbu, will be up against a multi-front assault: fortified rival political machines—both from his homestead and from the entire senatorial zone where he came from- set to ensure that his guber ambition crumbles like the centenary tower he constructed for the state. The supposed scandals of Ogbu and his excommunication from his church brought his public image to a nadir. Lately, he was summoned by the state house of assembly to answer questions regarding his role in the collapsed centenary tower. The unfortunate incident involving him confirms that his ambition is seriously infested with an incurable political disease as no substantial reasons were given by him as per what led t the collapsed tower. The former deputy governor is the chairman centenary committee of the state. He was the one who awarded the contract at the cost of SIXTY MILLION NAIRA. A chunk amount of money which would have been used to alleviate the condition of many Ebonyians was wasted and the same person who was behind the awful waste is talking about ruling the state. The aged professor was said to have brought a tough and a regrettable moment to his people when he served as a deputy governor. It is on record that the former deputy governor was behind the crises that nearly sent the entire community into extinction. People were killed in their dozens and property worth millions of Naira destroyed. Ogbu faced another trouble. His community banished him and he never visited his hometown till late when the punitive measure against him was lifted. His romance with the state governor earned him another opportunity to serve at the just concluded national conference. Ebonyians who watched the conference live can confirm that Ogbu made no single contribution. One of the online publications during the conference, described Ogbu as an accidental confab member who should have been better in the classroom than politics. The publication added that it is just unfortunate that such a man with supposed scandals should be brought to make laws for a country. The guber race is gearing up which will be keenly contested. Those who think that by romancing with the governor and becoming the governor’s candidate is an automatic ticket to become the next governor of the state are just day dreamers, especially Prof. Ogbu, who sources alleges that his unbridled desire to become the next governor of the state made him pencil down names of those that he will form the new government with ahead of 2015. Rival political machines are set to pound Ogbu’s guber ambition with his past records. Those of us who are conversant with political records of an individual would not be in a haste to forget the scandal that led to the disqualification of Onaguluchi, a guber aspirant in the defunct NRC. Onaguluchi, a pastor and a founder of one of the Pentecostal churches in Nigeria, in one of his telecast several years ago before he joined politics, broke a cross to demonstrate and convince people that he was a powerful man of God. Onaguluchi was reminded that his action was utterly wrong when he became one the guber aspirant in the old Enugu state which Ebonyi state was part of. As the controversy surrounding his action was brought to the public domain during the campaign, his party had no option than to nudge him, knowing that fielding him will crumble the chances of the party in the general election. Objector may say after all the incidents are not the same with that of Ogbu. They are, what was Ogbu in his trying to reform in his church ? Ogbu’s action is rebellious similar to that of the father of divisions in the Christendom Martin Luther. Actions against authorities of organized religion can not be easily forgotten and excommunication is one of them. Additionally, Ogbu’s base is more divided than it appears on the surface. His base split among various communities and these communities, although not very powerful, hardly constitute a unified voting bloc, which will make it difficult for him for a smooth take off from home-likely to give a green chance to opposition if he flys the PDP flag. Source alleges that the fragility of Ogbu’s candidature is not healthy for the party for the coming election. The party in her wisdom may have no option than to tactically take the hard decision and nudge the aged professor from contesting
