OGUN, MDGS PARTNER ON PROVISION OF POTABLE WATER. As part of the target to reduce by 70% the incidence of primary school pupils contacting germs and diseases through the hand after defecation, the Ogun State government in collaboration with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), would continue to sink more bore-holes in public primary schools. The special Adviser to the Governor on Millennium Development Goals (MGDs), Mrs. Hafsat Abiola-Costelo made the disclosure while commissioning more boreholes in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the State. Reiterating her point further, Mrs. Abiola-Costelo said the action was to ensure that by the year 2015, the larger proportion of the population must have had access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation facilities, saying that government was trying to help the pupils, teachers, and neighbouring communities achieve a significant improvement in their lives. She pointed out that, the seventh goal of the millennium declaration was to ensure environmental sustainability and reverse the loss of environmental resources. Parts of the primary Schools boreholes commissioned were Our Lady of Apostle’s Nursery and Primary (O.L.A) School, Oke-Ilewo, Imo Methodist Primary School, Oke-Iyeke and Baptist primary School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta. Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Head Teacher, Baptist Primary School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Mrs. Risikat Iyabode Adenekan said she was impressed by the project saying posterity would not forget the giant strides of the present administration. In his remark a pupil of Baptist Primary School, Master Benjamin Oluwatoyo expressed profound gratitude to the government under the leadership of Senator Ibikunle Amosun for providing water for the pupils, promising to maintain and make good use of it.
