OH HOW CAN I EXPLAIN THIS? AGONIES OF THE POOR LAGOSIANS Past administrations in Lagos State, even the military era, have been considered to be more beneficial to the poor than this present administration. This was made known by a resident of Progressive Union Residence Association (PURA) Community, Victoria Island, Pastor Adebowale Olaitan while speaking on the spate of the demolition of various communities in Lagos State. Pastor Olaitan whose community has been demolished since 2008 said that he and many other residents of the community have not been well re-settled or compensated after the incident. He also hint that the Lagos State government claimed to embark on developmental projects, but he opined that no developmental project should aim at rendering people homeless and subject human into abject poverty. He explained that over 200 lives were lost during and after the demolition, adding that he lost his wife while moving about to get shelter and his children were homeless. Pastor Olaitan hopes for the best and believes that the future will be bright with the help of Lagos Marginalized Communities Forum (LAMCOFOR), and Social and Economic Rights Action Centre (SERAC), as they embark on consciencetization programmers’ that help people to know and stand for their right.
