==OIL LOSS TECHNICAL HELP PLEASE :-) == Mk1 imported 1.6. Im losing about a pint of oil every hundred miles. Now, I normally build and run classic British engines from the 60s/70s, but even by those standards, thats high oil consumption!! Plugs not noticeably glazed, no sign of leaks underneath, no drips or baked on grimey-oil on the block anywhere. Where could it be going? Have cleaned the PCV valve. It runs rich (dont they all!) so its difficult to tell if the oil is being burnt from the plug, but it has to be going somewhere. When cold, it blows whitish smoke, but I put this down to condensation in the plenum. I do 2x 55-mile motorway journeys each day, cruising (if Im lucky!!) at 4k rpm or so. Idle is not unduly rough either hot or cold, no discernible bottom-end rumble, especially at high-gear/low-rpm pick-up, oil pressure is consistent (took the needle off and put it back on pointing at 0 with a cold engine and ignition on to get the closest approximation I could - appreciate they are largely useless for an accurate reading but at least this rules out the needle being on the spindle wrong). Oil pressure does read high tho - between 60 and 90 psi as soon as drive is taken up - 40-ish for a hot idle, and definitely up to 90 on the move. My thoughts are pressure release valve is stuck, but 1) how would that account for oil loss, and 2) has anybody got any other suggestions before I commit to dropping the sump. :-( All comment gladly received. Thanks in advance, Michael EDIT: Meant to mention, was fully serviced 3 weeks ago - Fram filter, Shell Helix 10w40 and new plugs/leads/air filter/coolant/rad cap/stat, etc. Its a daily car covering long distances so I am particular about servicing,
