OK - come clean Saturday - what the hell everything else has a name :) - while a lot of you know my story (cause if asked Ill tell, not ashamed, not proud either) - I did sever in the US Navy on a Nuclear Submarine, SSBN 659 USS Will Rogers, the story is long and complicated and a handful know it beginning to end (Ill have several drinks and tell it to you if you must know it) - I was 18 when I join and as most of you know me Im no to keen on taking orders and I was a tad bit of a smart ass .... I survived boot camp and signed up for a Nuclear Submarine Duty ... after boot camp in dead of winter in Chicago - I went to Groton, CT for sub school, after passing I was assigned to the USS Will Rogers SSBN 659 - - - I severed 2 patrols that is 2, 3 months tours underwater at a time 3 on - 3 off, I wont ho into details here, but Im not ashamed of what I did , do I regret it, everyday of my life. Cause I fail to successfully server my country, yes I was selected to server watch in Holly Lock, Scotland immediately after the airplane bombing, even though I was new to boat, I was one of the best with a gun - I have many, many great stories and memories from my 2 1/2 years in - but the one Ill never get over is the Other than Honorable Discharge I received on purpose. See I was 20, and like everyone from 15-25, I knew everything, I was 6 foot 4 and bulletproof, long enough story that needs shortening... I was brought to tell this brief summary cause some of my friend that did server and server with many more honors other than just what they said they would do, called me a Veteran- Im no Vet, not even close, when it came time for me to back the words Not on my watch I failed and that I will never live down or be able to change, Ive tried several time to reenlist to no avail. Life is what you make of it, mistakes included. Here is one of mine. I still consider myself a submariner ever if was for only 2 years - looking back it should have been for 20, but you never know when that smart ass teenager in all of us is going to efff his/her life up, but being able to right the boat and keep all ahead full - - - I guess what life is all about.
