OK, I admit, I read the comments recently made by Gwyneth Paltrow and yes, I totally rolled my eyes and laughed. Woman is clueless and completely out of touch I concluded. But then I realized that being a parent seems to be difficult for everyone, no matter their situation. I actually had to check myself. I know a broad spectrum of moms --all different categories. Some have help, some do not. Some have more wealth than they know what to do with. Others are just barely getting by. The one thing we share is that parenting is struggle at times. I think wed be lying if we as parents claimed to never look at someone elses situation and think Psh, they have it easier than me. Few decisions present you with more responsibility and decisions to agonize over than having a child. We ultimately want to give our kids the best life we can, and there never really is a clear cut right way for anything. So we weigh our options and do the best we can. We struggle and compare ourselves to others and have all been guilty of (unfair) thoughts that one persons situation is easier or more privileged than our own. Thats very human of us, but whatever end of the spectrum you are on, the Mom-shaming doesnt really seem fair if you are the one dishing it out (so yeah, Im calling out BOTH sides of that Gwyneth debate). I am no better or worse than the next mom and I think that goes for the majority of us. Dont judge.
