OK, I almost NEVER post anything personal about myself. But Im going to vent a little. I started this page because Im obsessed with Bruce Dickinson, and to a lesser extent Iron Maiden. I was driving my friends and family crazy on my personal wall posting stuff about them. Most notably my husband, brother, and best friend who HATE them. Until I found you all, I was alone in my worship. Thats why I bust my butt to give you the best I can, because you all make me feel like Ive finally found kindred spirits. My husband has long ago quietly resigned himself to my addiction, but my big brother constantly gets aggravated with the fact that from time to time I share stuff from this page on my personal wall. I get yelled at often (which makes me do it even more ;) ) I just wanted to share with you some of what I have to deal with in my personal world, so heres a clip of this mornings battle between my brother and I -Sarah -Hey sis, Just so you know, in the spirit of fairness, I rolled through and tried to really listen to the lyrics of some of the top ten fan favorite iron maiden songs. Fear of the dark, run for the hills, two minutes to midnight, rime of the ancient mariner,trooper,etc. etc. I took the time to really listen. I think the music just sounds the same in most of their stuff, and the main difference is them repeating the title over and over. I get the storytelling , but theyre spitting out Tennyson and other famous poets, and putting it to metal riffs. Its not their poetry. Groups like Queen, Yes, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd,and Rush all did the same type of thing, earlier and in a more original way. I grant you the guitar riffs are high quality, the bass riffs are better, and the vocals are alright, but it all runs into each other in a mass. Without the intros which are great, and solos, also good, I dont think you could tell on a bet the difference from one song to another, except for the title being chanted repeatedly. If it was without lyrics, not at all. So I tried. If you want real musical complexity and mad skills listen to System Of A Downs first album, and if you want storytelling listen to Styx, or Journey or Queen or Yes. It sounds very fruity compared to anything done by Maiden, but listen to, Dust In The Wind by Kansas, or Wondrous Story by Yes, or watch the 70s version of the music video for Bohemian Rhapsody, then tell me how original and impressive Queen is. I did try, out of fairness and love for my little sister, prior to desecrating her gods images with phallic symbols and my pretty ponies and unicorn rainbows. You are lucky my pc shit the bed, or I would have unleashed a barrage of photoshop already. Soon. Very soon. And you will be tagged. So that your minions can bear witness to your chastisement. Oh yes, there will be tagging. Muahh ha ha ha (I meant then tell me how original and impressive iron maiden is. I hate it when a villains monologue gets screwed up.) Love you, take care of you (This was my reply-Sarah) -Wow, I am as indulgently perplexed as a missionary standing in a pygmy camp, trying to explain the basic concepts of God and hygiene. I have exposed you to the truth and the way. I cant force you to abandon your false idols, I can only continue to try gently enlighten you. I promise to try to be magnanimous on that glorious day. Well just quietly pack up your old cds, clean off your ITunes account and dress you up in Maiden gear. We can go door to door together then, publishing the brilliance. There are so many who are still lost and it breaks my heart. You should be advised though, I am also very familiar with creating digital art, and turnabout is fair play. Also, Im not fond of most of the bands youve pointed out, and think them about on the level of my three year old playing his toy Xylophone by hitting it with the cat. As you know, I run a Maiden page, more then half of my Fb friends are either members, huge fans of Maiden, or run their own pages, so you were warned about taking a crap in my church. But judging on your musical perspective, Im just happy youre civilized enough to converse with, and I have high hopes for your soul. Someday youll be saved, Ill remain vigilant. I appreciate your efforts, I know you gave it your best shot. Youll get there, just keep trying. Until then, I will try to keep everyone from flipping out when you share your...art.
