OK I have a little story to tell you about Davis B. Hillmer my G uncle - the guy who did all the 1914 Plymouth postcard photos. He was rather eccentric. So anyway some of the folks who lived in Old Village or Lower Town if you prefer may have met him and knew he was a bit eccentric and humorous. When I was young I used to go by the tracks in back of Gold Seal photo or later Fox Photo with a handmade butterfly net - it was a great place to catch butterflies back then - lots of milkweed back there. So I would take a long pole from a garden tool, and a coat hanger and fashion a hoop out of it, and use one of my moms discarded window curtains and safety pins and fashion a butterfly net with it, and nail the hoop to the end of the pole. One Sunday when Uncle Davis came over for a visit, after Sunday dinner we went back of the photo place and were walking along the rail road bed, between the rails and the mini swamp that was on the photo place side to catch butterfly’s. Some girls came by and were watching us while he was taking photos, and when we started walking back home the gals came up to us and asked us what the net was for. Uncle Davis in his loud and eccentric way said ”It’s a net to catch pretty girls in”. They kind of looked at him rather alarmingly and walked away LOL. Anyway I told my grandma and mom that and Grandma was rather irritated at her brother in law for saying that. Thats how kids entertained themselves back then.
