OK. I yield. Here are the 15 arcane facts about me that folks may or may not know. 1. I was born in Midland, Texas, in October 1955 but never lived in Texas until 1987. Been here ever since. 2. My grandfathers grandmothers brother was Sam Houston. 3. In 1994 Texas Governor Ann Richards commissioned me an Admiral of the Texas Navy. 4. In 1995, the Houston Press included me in their Best of Houston issue as Best Friend a Reptile ever Had. 5. Four generations of my family -- and even my ex-wife -- are pilots but I no longer fly and havent since 1995. 6. I had two major lung operations in 8th grade in Feb. 1969 in Griffin, Georgia; was in a horrendous car collision in Sept. 1973, in Luverne, Alabama; spent two days in Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in June, 1973 after being bitten by a brown recluse spider; and was technically dead for 5 minutes during my heart surgery in Oct. 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital in Houston. 7. My college career lasted 13 years and I attended the University of Alabama, LSU-New Orleans, University of New Orleans, Tulane University, Our Lady of Holy Cross College and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1986. I also attended The University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. 8. I remember the name of every girl/woman I have ever been in love with since 1960 and in most cases know where they are what they are doing. No stalking - just no bad breakups! 9. The aviatrix Amelia Earhart was my grandfather Ralph Roland DeVores co-pilot for a year. Theres a good write up in a Detroit newspaper of the 1920s about them getting stranded in fog in a seaplane on Lake Michigan. They were also chastised by the authorities for buzzing cars in a two-seat biplane. 10. I have worked for the Observer Newspapers/Houston Community Newspapers five times during the last 26 years. I have been a stringer, reporter, assistant editor, acting editor, managing editor, editor-in-chief, design editor and paginator. My first desk was a piece of cardboard I sat on in 1988 next to a cardboard box with an old Radio Shack TRS computer perched on top. During the same 26-year period, I also worked for Harris County Precinct 4 Parks Department twice. 11., I hand code in HTML, XHTML and XML and built my first website in 1993. I was co-author of one computer book and contributed two chapters to another in 2000. 12. I was a historical re-enactor -- Texas Colonial Period and French and Indian War. 13. My mom was a registered nurse and worked for heart surgeon Michael DeBakey in the 1950s here in Houston. 14. In 1990, I spent two days with the Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins National Hockey League teams. I got to hang with Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Luc Robataille, Tom Barrasso, Paul Coffey, Ron Francis, Kelly Hrudey, Tomas Sandstrom and Tony Granato. 15. I attended 5 schools in 4 years during my high school years: 9th Grade was at Spalding Junior High in Griffin, Georgia; 10th Grade was at Griffin High School in Griffin, Georgia; for 11th Grade, I spent the first half of the year at Woodham High School in Pensacola, Florida, and the second half of the year at Holmes County High School in Bonifay, Florida; and for 12th grade, I attended and graduated from Charles Henderson High School in Troy, Alabama, in May 1973.
