OK. Ill play: Im so Kalamazoo I was on the Channel 3 Clubhouse, a salad boy at Chicken Charlies & Schwartz’s on South Westnedge, sold fish at Deep Sea Aquarium on Burdick, and on my Kalamazoo Gazette paper route I delivered the paper to Fetzer Cablevision/Channel 3 on Maple St and the Westnedge Hill Motel. I destroyed the arcade games and devoured the pizza at Star World before hitting the midnight opening of Return of the Jedi at the Plaza II. I also played my fair share of games at Kings Castle (triple token Tuesdays, baby!) and on the way home would stop at Party Port for some Now&Laters and some New York Seltzer water being careful not to get the bike stolen (again). I got yelled at by my mom to come inside on May 13, 1980. Swapped skis at the Maple Hill Mall, watched 99¢ movies at the Eastown Mall, and walked the Downtown mall always stopping at Gilmore’s (to see Santa) and Penny’s. In high school, I sold my tie-dyes at Piranha Alley and at the first Munchie Mart, and worked at the old KVP (Kalamazoo Valley Parchment) company. I always wanted to be but was never left in the Oasis at Thrifty’s, bought Hawaiian shirts/shorts at the Sagebrush in Thrifty’s parking lot, and was accused of actually being the Little Dutch Boy. We’d eat Chicken Coop (except on Sundays) and play tennis at Crane Park and ride down to Osco to grab a snack afterword. Played football in the snow on the roof of East Hall, worked at Bell’s when there were only 7 employees (including both Larry & me), saw Gwar at The Warehouse, saw 2 Live Crew (twice), D.R.I., Dead Kennedy’s, Dick Dale, and countless other shows at The Club Soda. I suppose thats enough.
