OK, LETS ALL CHECK OUR PAYCHECK STUBS, According to the 2012 MGMA Physician Compensation Report (based on 2011 data), the average income for neurosurgeons is about $775,968. The median or midpoint is $704,170. The top ten percent earn up to $1,229,881. We I am happy for them if they deserve it. But do they? Most frightening is Neurosurgery professors. The pay is NOT based on quality of work, survival rate or even success rate. It is based on how much money the Neurosurgeon brings into the Medical University "head in bed" rate. That same principal is taught to every neurosurgery student. Patient survival is irrelevant. This does not even take into account the millions paid in bribes for device and drug endorsements, or speaking engagements to push known deadly products and services. It would be NO stretch of the imagination for a Professor of Neurosurgery to sell his endorsements [medical license] for an additional million dollars a year. All with absolutely ZERO accountability or responsibility for their patients outcome, let alone survival. How many readers are paid by a system that has has ZERO accountability for your work? Anyone?
