OK ... Lets try to pull my thoughts together. Before I start, please understand that I am neither anti nor pro fracking. I am neither friend nor foe to town council. I have supported them on some issues and I have fought them tooth and nail on others. I have been watching these issues unfold for quite some time as I work in Moncton and had been following the request made to Dieppe a few months back. I have been a resident of Amherst for 40 years, raising 3 kids with my wife and trying to keep my head above water just like everybody else. I was included in this group through mass invite, not by personal choice, but I have remained a member to follow along and gain insight. Enough about me ... lets talk about all of you for a minute. In this group I have encountered many very passionate people. Some truly staunch anti-fracking activists (I appreciate your resolve in fighting for what your believe in), some die hard Oil & Gas supporters (I understand you are speaking from a core that supports your livelihood), and a whole spectrum of people who lean one way or the other to varying degrees. Lastly, there are some, like me, who are in the middle saying what is the real deal here? The issue, in a nutshell, AIS has asked Amherst to allow them to dispose of treated waste water, originally from hydraulic fracturing sites, through our facilities. Preliminary tests show the water is within acceptable limits, and based on the existing bylaws Amherst has the option to accept this request and charge a fee. Questions are raised about the safety of the proposal, protests are held, decisions are delayed, discussions are held ... and here we are. This is a contentious issue as it deals with a process connected to fracking, which is completely understandable as it is one of the most debated, and most polarizing topics, pitting economics against the environment. Huge followings on both sides. So what does a person in the middle do? We ask for truth, evidence, logic, and rational discussions. So here goes ... The water in question is stated (
