OK! The meeting with Dr. P went, I think pretty well. I feel that he has REALLY thought about Aiden and his treatment and what the best action in the future should be at this moment in time (subject to change at any time, this is cancer we are dealing with). Aiden WILL continue his oral chemo. We will remain at the low levels, 25% of recommended doses, for at least a month to two months. He wants to monitor his counts bi-weekly so that he can be on top if ANY changes occur in the lab work. Next, he feels very confident, that because he tailored Aidens treatment with non-traditional protocol measures (radiation to CNS & Testicles) and all the STRONG and AGGRESSIVE chemo therapy he has received over the last few years, he feels that Aiden should NOT relapse, BUT now THE BIG goal is to keep his bone marrow working. Dr. P said that based on his counts today, that the 20-30% of BM that is working is working very well, and the goal with the low dose chemo is to rebuild some of the non working marrow. The good news is the BM that is not working is NOT rubber or fatty material, its actual BM that just isnt producing cells at the moment. He will perform another biopsy in three months and revaluate the productivity of his BM and we hope that it will be higher than the 20-30%. Aiden will have his gallbladder removed December 18th, as long as his counts are good on the 17th. Now the bad news from todays visit; it has been recommended that Aiden be removed from school. Due to his BM and body being SO fragile at this moment in time, we cannot afford for Aiden to pick up ANY germ, virus etc. that would suppress or put his Bone Marrow into failure. If his BM level drops to 10% or below, we will have NO CHOICE but to perform a bone marrow transplant. So as Aiden says, hes back in his bubble! Thankful that his school is very PRO Aiden and we have already began the in home tutoring organization process. As always, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!
