OK, Wendy David McCormick, I will play along and give the FB world 11 little known facts about me: 1. I was born in Greenville, South Carolina on an Air Force Base that closed 6 months after my birth. Spent next 3 years of life thereafter at Warner Robbins AFB in Georgia and have vivid memories of: pooping my underpants while outside playing with older brothers because I couldnt make it home in time; playing in the downpouring rains after Hurricane Hippo; and of learning how to go under water so Dad, who was a lifeguard in his youth, would let me jump into his arms in the big pool. Incidentally, I nearly drowned at age 8 at Phillips Swim Club in Dayton, but thats another story. 2. Neither of my biological children were born in Ohio: daughter Erica Fehrenbach was born in Weisbaden, Germany in 1986 at the same hospital on the same floor in the same ward (Storks Nest) where, 6 years earlier and after 444 days of captivity, the American hostages released from Iran were treated before returning home early in Ronald Reagans first term; son Nick Fehrenbach was born in San Angelo, Texas in 1989 while stationed at Goodfellow AFB, where future Texas Governor/U.S. President George W. Bush made a campaign stop. 3. At the tender age of 2-1/2 to 3, I had a vision (dream) of talking to Jesus in the living room of our home on Base in Georgia. The old cream sofa was at one end of the room, the kitchen to the left, and Jesus with arms wide open surrounded in a glowing aura at the other end of the room. My parents said I was very spiritual as a young child and learned to say my prayers very early. I experienced the exact same dream (vision) again at age 28 of me as that little girl in that same room talking to Jesus. To this day I am awaiting another such awe-inspiring visit from Him! 4. I have eaten octopus, squid, crawfish, along with WHOLE fish and shrimp -- yes heads, tails, eyeballs and all still in tact. Tried mussels and oysters once and dont care for either -- TOO effing slimy for me! My absolute favorite seafood is fresh Maine LOBSTAH hands down! 5. I am the third oldest child in my family, being the older sister; I have 2 older brothers, 1 younger sister, and 4 younger brothers. I had aspirations of becoming a nurse, like my mother, growing up with all those injury-prone brothers who gave me endless opportunities to mend their many wounds -- a hand through a plateglass window, knee disclocation jumping off roof, full soda can to the forehead, just to name a few. 6. My parents met and married within 5 months of meeting in 1958, both while active duty Air Force officers, and they procreated 8 children in 10 years between 1959 and 1969 with NO twins in the bunch. The first 4 of us are each 1 year apart, followed by the 2 year gap while Dad was in Vietnam, followed by the next 4 each being a year apart, whom we fondly refer to as the 4 little boys. Thankfully, the procreation monster died with the removal of Moms plumbing after #8, though Dad threatened to adopt a few more. 7. I spent 4 years, 7 months, 17 days in the U.S. Air Force from August 1985 to March 1990 (honorably discharged following reduction in force -- RIF); was initially trained at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianpolis as a radio/TV broadcaster and stationed in Crete, Greece for 18 months; returned to USA in 1987 stationed at Goodfellow AFB, then retrained as telecommunications & computer operator at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS, then back to Goodfellow until discharge. 8. My lifelong hero is John Glenn, with whom I have a common bond -- the exact moment of my birth 20 Feb 1962 at 5:48 a.m. occurred just hours before Astronaut John Glenn who, after a 9:47 a.m. liftoff at Cape Canaveral, became the first American to orbit the earth 3 times in the Friendship 7 space capsule during Project Mercury -- a momentous occasion which my Dad proudly reminded me of on my birthday for 17 years until his death. My prize possession is my autographed copy of John Glenns Memoir (autobiography)! 9. My Dad became a Certified Public Accountant after he retired from the Air Force. He died on Easter Sunday in 1979, which also happened to be Tax Day (April 15) and the irony in the timing of his death was not lost on us. At Dads funeral, the priest officiating his services with whom Dad was quite close, told us that Dad had often hoped he would die on Easter so he could get a pass straight into Heaven with no waiting. Dad was known to be a tad bit impatient :-) 10. My brushes with fame include: Marsha Wallace of Bob Newhart show at a buddhist temple in Santa Monica while visiting brother Andy Fehrenbach in early 1986; meeting and getting photo op with singer Lee Greenwood while helping film his USO show at Iraklion AFB in Greece; Tommy Johnston of Doobie Brothers, Steve Walsh of Kansas, lead singer of Toto and some others in 1986 while filming another USO show at the Souda Bay Naval Station in Crete, Greece; and Rachel Maddow in 2010 in Washington DC at SLDN dinner honoring baby brother with Courage Award during efforts to end Dont Ask Dont Tell. 11. I have always fantacized about being a cast member on the reality show, Survivor. I know I can outwit, outlast and outplay anybody. Growing up with 7 siblings, traveling around the world and taking in other cultures, experiencing varied fields/careers of totally unrelated nature (broadcasting, computer ops, legal/paralegal), living and working many places with a great variety of personalities from so may different backgrounds -- qualifies me for a million dollar prize. Besides, if you put me on a beach ANYWHERE in this world with nothing but the shirt on my back, I will certainly find a way to SURVIVE because I belong near the ocean damnit!
