OK folks.. I want to say a few things about this Ice water - TopicsExpress

OK folks.. I want to say a few things about this Ice water Challenge thats making the rounds. Heres my 2 cents. First, the Challenge.... A bucket of ice water? Really? Thats supposed to be a challenge? Its not a challenge. Its just silly, and it makes people laugh to see other people get cold and wet.... You want a real challenge? Tell a total stranger that God loves them.... Tell someone struggling with their faith, about the Love of Christ..... When you see someone that you dont know whos having a bad day, give them a hug or a few words of encouragement.... Or give a homeless person your coat and buy him or her a hot meal.... There are MANY things more difficult than dumping ice water on your head that you could do that would matter so much more.... Visit a retirement home and spend time with the countless lonely elderly people who have nobody left in the world.... Visit a childrens hospital and cheer up a terminally ill kid.... Ice water is for drinking... Challenges are for helping others. As far as the penalty for being challenged, Thats just extortion through peer pressure, and its just plain sinful. Nobody has the right to guilt anyone into paying money to anyone or anything for any reason. I dont care how good the cause is. And as far as the charity involved, I think we can all agree that ALS is heartbreaking and it would be wonderful if there was a cure. But to donate all of the so-called challenge money for research that might make a difference years down the road, when children are going hungry every night, right now, right here where we live, seems a bit misguided to me. I was challenged today. I reject it. Period. First, because its not a challenge. Sitting in a 55 gallon drum filled with ice water, neck deep for over 2 minutes.... Thats a challenge, and Ive done it already. And second, because I give Gods money to where God lays it on my heart to give. Period.
