OK for all those people who have commented on my marriage status which I noted on facebook. Mick and I commited to eachother many years ago (20+) but both believed that neither church not state should mediate our relationship and so refused the formality. However, on discovering that, should one of us die, the other would be faced with leaving our home as well as dealing with the emotional trauma of loss, in order to pay inheritance tax cos we werent officially married we decided that we needed to do something to avoid this. So we wnet to Hackney register office, and the official there had difficulty in believing that people of our advanced age did not have previous marriages to declare. We had minimal fuss - no special clothes, no music , no rings,our witnuesses were friends who happened to be around Hackney that day. We did the deed on 26 01 2007. So that is it and I should never have tried to amend my marital status on facebook cos it certainly did nothing to alter our relationship!
