OK. for all those who travel, be aware that you may not be getting the best deal out there if you use EXPEDIA. Here is what recently happened to us. We called the hotel reservation line posted on the internet and we reserved the room. About three weeks later we had to change it. When we called the line again, things went from bad to worse. They could not change it (all we needed was to drop three days from the itinerary). According to them, they needed to CANCEL everything and re-issue the reservation. When I arrived at the motel, this is what I found out: The reservation was through EXPEDIA. At NO TIME was it ever mentioned that we were going through Expedia. In fact, they answered with the hotel name and then “reservation desk”. They had ALREADY CHARGED my credit card, tying up over $800 dollars worth of my card because they had yet to release the original cost from the cancelled reservation, so I could NOT just cancel and go through the front desk while I was at the hotel. The hotel (which was staffed by the NICEST people, and was offering me a discounted room that was 35% cheaper than what EXPEDIA called its lowest price) did NOT have any reservation, only a cancellation! I tried for over an HOUR to get that straight, and this is all WITH THE MONEY still gone from my credit card! Then I had to pay the PET deposit ALL OVER AGAIN! The EXPEDIA guy that I talked to assured me that it was all in the price already charged to me. Now, I have put a negative review on EXPEDIA but I cant find it anywhere. I am going to call the company, as well as a lawyer, because I think what they did was FRAUD! Because I go to the same motel every year when I visit this place, he SHOWED me the price lists and what he charges, and why: EXPEDIA was charging me more than 40% more a night for the room. The owner was only receiving $40 a night from EXPEDIA. He lost money BIG TIME. All this because I could not find the number to the motel and I looked it up on-line. We got to the web-site and called the toll-free number. EXPEDIA charged us a PET fee that they were NOT allowed to charge, and we had to pay it again: FRAUD. The reservation line was EXPEDIA and I called the motel chain desk: MISREPRESENTATION. EXPEDIA charged my card as soon as I made the reservations then claims that to get AAA or AARP discounts you need to produce your card to the motel staff and you receive the discount at the site: WRONG! They charge your card as soon as you reserve so that you CANT get a discount! The Motel cannot honor this as they are usually not even receiving the full cost of what they NEED to make a profit on that room. EXPEDIA has YET to answer my questions or refund me the pet fee that I paid, nor will they release the recording of the conversation we had over the phone (probably because it PROVES that they LIED and intentionally misrepresented themselves). EXPEDIA assured me that they would give me the SAME RATE that I had when I initially reserved the room: THEY LIED and increased it by almost $10 a night! EXPEDIA will screw you!! TAKE the TIME to research your hotel/motel and call their desk. DO NOT try to do this on-line. You will get a better deal if you call the desk directly! The motel will be able to give you a better price and discount than EXPEDIA will! They will also not charge you for anything till you use the service (or if you cancel late, or don’t show up, they will take their cancellation fee). Take the time to do some homework! Make sure you ASK the person on the phone is they are with EXPEDIA or if they are using EXPEDIA… if they are, HANG UP and call the desk directly, using the area code and number from the white pages: you will probably save money even if you have to pay for this long distance call! All in all, just STAY AWAY from EXPEDIA and you will be assured to have a better trip! At least you will HAVE a room when you get there, and not end up like me arguing and trying to get anything that I can while EXPEDIA laughs and spends my money that they already have! NEVER trust a company that is afraid to tell you who they are when you call!
