OK, got to be honest here and I may lose some friends over this, but all of the elation-and despair-occurring today because of the election results is exactly whats wrong with the governance of this country today. Youd think the Republicans won a football game or something. Id prefer it if Elections were individual sports rather than team sports. Id like it better if candidates made up their own minds on issues rather than have them dictated to them by a party...and the partys stand based upon who gives the most $$ to them. What I wouldnt give for a candidate who defines himself or herself as, for instance, Pro-Life, but also OK with the concept of poor and/or elderly people being able to access affordable health care. Id love someone who doesnt believe that corporations should be able to put as much poisonous stuff into our air and water as theyd like, but also dont need the government to tell them what to pay their employees. Id love someone who realizes that, for the most part, the government does not do things nearly as well as private enterprises and charities do, but that doesnt mean that Wall Street should just run around unchecked and allowed to wreck the entire nations economy as long as it gets them their bonuses. Right now, the best thing that could happen in Washington would be for it to be filled with people who dont want another term. Then they could actually work to get things done rather than spend all of their time fund-raising and schilling to the totality of the party/donor agenda. Ill keep the rest of my rant to myself for now. Have a nice day.
