OK....here is the latest market report...hot off of the wires....Central Park Market was sorta open yesterday....but wide open today...so we are officially up and running. I had my good buddy Robert Ferguson with me over the last two days and he was a lot of help....and a damn good bartender, I might add. I learned a lot over the last day or so about marketing. One of the important things I learned was to always use a koozie to cover your beer while trying to sell produce to families on Saturday mornings. It just does not look right to be bagging up tomatoes while holding a can of beer...Koozies are a definite yes. Another thing...just because a woman shucks an ear of corn in front of you does not necessarily mean that she is flirting with you. Its best to wait for at least one more flirt before making any suggestions. Never....ever...offer to sell produce for anything other than money.....that apparently is a big No-no! And if you are going to offer to deliver produce free of charge to a ladies home, dont immediately ask if the woman is married or not.....I mean...there needs to be some conversation keeping those two lines of thought a little separated from each other. On the less important side of things, I learned that people are tired of corn and watermelons.....onions, potatoes and collard greens are way big! I also learned that Ive got to charge more for my boiled peanuts, and I need to reach out to the Latino community to promote cane sales. Cokes are not a biggy, and ice cream wont sell on cool, windy days. But we made some friends, and captured a lot of attention in our little neighborhood. The biggest change will be Sat afternoons....closing at 1 or maybe 2....open earlier....8 instead of 10 on Saturdays. I had a wonderful day...enjoyed every minute!
