OK now someone tell me, whats the story with Madame Chaloff and the light arm technique..I learned it through Greg Silberman who studied with her. My interpretation was that it emphasized the wrist motion keeping the tips of your fingers in the key. Theres some whole meditational breathing transport where it doesnt necessarily feel like music, just focusing on the slow motion physical action. I dont think its the panacea for piano technique but like any good technique it made me more aware of the mind body connection with the instrument. There is often this religious view of technique especially with the music of the colonies something that saved them and they owe their life to it you know like medieval chivalry or colonial pride aspiring to beauty.
