OK, so heres why you should NOT have your hubby do home repairs. Our reverse osmosis thing wasnt giving us much water and I figured we needed to clean or replace the filters. So, I mentioned it several times. So...along about 3 p.m. yesterday hubby decides he should check it out. In order to do this, one must remove all of the junk from below the kitchen sink. Then he has to unhook water lines, and of course the water goes all over the rug in front of the sink. We couldnt move the rug first. Then...we leave with the filters to go to Home Depot or Lowes to look for replacement filters. (All the while the kitchen floor is full of debris from under the sink.) Of course we have an elite system that came with our water softening system and no store carries replacement parts. You MUST get them from the dealer. I continued to say things like, Lets just call the man. Call the company, Ill call the man, but no. So then hubby goes on line to see if he can order the replacement filters. Sure, but from where??? The Company!!! Closest dealership is in Phoenix. Now I can drive to and from Phoenix in 6 hours. But...to send these parts takes a week. Too boot, the parts cost only about $30 less than replacing the whole system with one from Lowes or Home Depot where you can get replacement parts when needed. So...Hubby decides to just replace the whole unit. Again, I chime in with the Lets call the man. And I stupidly ask, have you done this before? Of course is the reply, but it has been about 35 years since I did one. So off to Lowes to purchase a new one. You must understand that all this time, no kitchen sink water, it is now 6:00 p.m. and I get very crabby when I havent eaten in a while. I needed to fix dinner, but couldnt get to anything. So in comes the new unit in a box and it sits on the kitchen counter. Then hubby sits in his chair. I asked if he was going to do it tonight. Yes, but he needs to rest. OK. I still cant fix dinner. Im not calling for pizza. Im too crabby. To top things off, Im sort of OCD and cant stand messes. So I decide I need to leave the area where I dont have to look at it. But its not working. Then I hear noise in the kitchen and I go in and the box is still on the counter top and the stuff from the middle of the floor is not there. I looked under the sink and eveyrthing is crammed back under the sink, in no particular order. (Not my style). Now kitchen water works but not reverse osmosis water. So, I fixed dinner at about 7:30 p.m. Then hubby goes back to his chair. I again wondered if the mess was going to be fixed or not. Then around 8 p.m. hubby begins to install the unit. I continued to say things like, I can call the man... but I am assured that he will get it done. 11 p.m. Alas! its all hooked up and the wet rug is outside and stuff crammed back under the sink (albeit not with the shelf liner or in the way I wanted it to be.) Now Im told we need to purge the system with bleach and let the water run for a month. No not a month but enough to empty the tank and then let it drip for a day. Im losing my mind by this time so I went to bed. This morning the liner was back under the sink and again stuff crammed under any old way. I removed everything and cleaned out the space under the sink and put new liner in and systematically put the stuff back under the sink. Then I begin to clean the floor because it was mud from walking outside and in the water that was on the floor. When I began to do the floor I spied the stove and wondered if I should clean behind it. Dumb thought! Pulled it out and swept up enough bread crumbs to reconstitute a loaf of bread. When I had finished that I noticed the mammoth refrigerator and thought no, but began to pull it away from its space. Then about half way out, it got stuck and there it is in the middle of the floor and I cant move it back or forward. Duh! I thought maybe I should Call the man, and I did, but the man was hubby. He came and rescued me by pulling it out so I could clean behind it and eventually at 1 p.m. today, I have a spotless kitchen with functioning reverse osmosis. If you ever have this problem, just CALL THE MAN!
