OK, status update...I regret speaking my mind on the topic of Christmas and Religion on Christmas eve. Sometimes I am just a dick. I shouldnt have said it. There are many people I care for deeply whom I might have offended, and for that I am truly sorry. I have also been reading all the Pro Blue that has been posted. Here is what I have to say about that: I have friends that I think I know well enough to say they are good cops, I have relatives that are in law enforcement and I support them. I also have someone close to me that I dont know well but I know is a bad cop...and I just have to say: What is happening in NY right now with cops turning their back on the mayor, is an example of a mental illness called group think. One of things that cops do is develop an us against them attitude, (it is understandable, but that doesnt make it right) and it creates an insular society unable to police itself. This is not the fault of the mayor or the many selfless officers that risk their lives daily to maintain order and keep us safe. There is however a problem in this country with with the murder of young, unarmed black men who have have committed an offense that wouldnt get them a ticket if they were white. Eric Garner is an obvious case. Read the grand jury transcript of Darren Wilson and Michael Browns friend, Darrien Johnson. If you do you might suspect the officer is lying about his role and did not politely tell Wilson and Joshua to get off the median. He may have been taunted and was incensed by the challenge. He probably floored his car and screeched into an attack to set them straight. Michael Brown probably didnt reach into the car. He stole Tiparillos, but Wilson didnt know that. Blind solidarity is not a goal for a police organization given extraordinary powers, but seems to be how they roll. We know how hard the job is but that does not make it anything goes. Read both accounts with an open mind and find your best estimation of the truth. The bottom line, there should have been a trial. Whatever you might think about supporting the police, people do not deserve to die for taunting or selling untaxed cigarettes. There is plenty of evidence nationally of the murder of young black males as there is for the continuing, institutionalized racism in this country. I think the behavior of the NYPD and their Union is shameful. As for inciting the act of the kid that killed the two multi-racial officers in NY: HE WAS A LOOSER. PERIOD! Not an activist, not a militant, not a terrorist, probably didnt even watch FOX news! He was a looser who just lost a girl and did something to make a mark just, like Mark David Chapman or John Hinkley, or the damn fools that killed Sikhs after 911! To say that DiBlasio is to blame for this savage crime because he wants a police department that is trusted by the people is ludicrous. We have allowed a paramilitary enforcement structure to arise in this country that serves the needs of power and money and demands absolute obedience from we, the governed. It is wrong and needs to be checked. With great power comes responsibility. If you carry the power to take a life, do not expect that power to come without the expectation that you exercise great care in its use, and when you dont, there must be consequences.
