OK, this is a little work related and you will have to stay with me on this because to understand it, you need to see the whole game board. First the FED or FOMC will be raising interest rates on short term rates I figure in April 2015. The unemployment number and the new filings for unemployment are on a positive trajectory regardless to what the far right says and has not done for the last 6 years. So as rates go up our dollar gets stronger. This is to offset our new interest rates vurses foriegn currencies. Got that? Thats the value of our currency and Oh yes Our bonds owned overseas. OK so as our dollar increases in value we also see the price of Brent Crude being lowered by, wait for this, our FRIENDS, the Saudis and OPEC. Why? To slow or stop our domestic exploration for oil and gas and, in particular fracking soon to make us net exporters of energy and OPECs competition. The smart money says oil is going to $85.00 / barrell. This too will continue to insure our DEPENDENCE on OPEC! The U S Navy has been designed since 1941 to insure the safe transport of goods by the worlds oceans. We do that and we pay for that too. So in a time when we wonder how we can afford to fix our infastructure, teach our children, keep our country safe and continue to be competitive in the global economy why in the hell dont we hear more from the right about energy security and dependence? If you think the Keystone Pipeline is the all incompassing answer you are wrong. That is a works project from the last administration to keep Freeport, Beaumont, Texas City and Old Ocean, TXs refineries employed. Not much more. Renewable energy, domestic energy combined with the existing power grid will continue to make the U.S. the low cost energy leader in the world thereby increasing manufacturing lowering living costs and maybe, someday, thumbing our noses to the Middle East and letting Chinas Navy pick up the slack to protect their tankers, not us. There, I feel better now.
