OK. who here knows what the deal is with the early 60s truck chassis(s)? I have ran into several that were different. I previously thought all 60, 61, 62 were the X type cross member. They are not. I have now done work on two 1961 and 1962s that are ladder style frames like the later incarnations. no rhyme or reason that I can see. I verified year. they both had matching numbers on the VIN for the cab and frames, so its not just a case of someone switched a bent frame or something. They both are normal 1/2 ton C10s, one was a GMC and one Chevy so its not a branding difference or hauling capacity like a 2500/ 3500 designation difference. Whats the deal??? anyone know the real story. Im open to guesses, but Id really like to know what the reasoning behind this is. They wont just bolt on/ switch/ interchange readily either. The beds wont bolt up- the holes are two far inboard on the ladder frame- the X frame is wider at the back, and the front two cab holes have to be re-drilled inboard to the location where they are on the later cabs. I know what all the differences between the two chassis are so theres no need to start pointing all that out, just really curious to the background on this anomaly.
