OKOWA PLEDGES MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE FOR ALL DELTANS AND FREE MEDICAL CARE The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State for 2015 general election, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday, promised to Institute a mandatory health insurance policy for all citizens of the state if elected. Okowa, who is currently the chairman, Senate Committee on Health from Delta North Senatorial District, made the pledge during an interview with journalists in Abuja. The senator also said part of his priority was to establish industrial estates in all the three senatorial districts in his bid to ensure industrialisation of the state as soon as he is given the mandate. He described his emergence as the PDP governorship candidate as an act of God, adding that God has a purpose for Delta State. He promised to do his best for his people being a politician that had been consistent with the political affairs of the state. He said industrialisation of the state would be key to his administration to reduce unemployment and also cushion effect of economic challenges the nation was facing. “We are going to put processes in place to ensure that we actively bring peace in the state and that means we are going to have regular sessions and forums with the traditional rulers and opinion leaders across the state.” He called on well meaning elders to constitute themselves into committees that can proactively bring peace and not wait for crisis to come. Okowa further said that beyond the industrialization of the state, he would vigourously pursue the issue of health and education to ensure that the state was given the best in these sectors. He said, “In the health sector, the first thing I am going to pursue is to ensure that we start the process of our people getting engaged in having health insurance policy. “People all over the world, even Ghana that is nearby here, you will find out that a lot is being done to encourage people to buy into health care policies. “We will support the people, we will encourage them to pay some minimum wage and we will give support to them
