OLD INDIAN HUNTING TRICKS # 4 Now, those following along at this juncture ought to smell like a deer turd and be able to walk like the filthy animal they are and pee like a race horse. Now to try out what you think you have learned, you should be able to walk up on a buck deer, grab him by an ear and horn and learn a lesson you will never forget. The moral of the lesson, you don’t play grab tail with no deer, you don’t need get that up that close and personal, keep up, I can’t be telling ya everything. Black Tail deer are different from the other species of deer mentioned. They do not travel from bedding areas to feeding areas; they graze most the night as they travel, and when full, lay down and chew the cud where ever they are. Now the large bucks do have areas they claim for themselves, and they do have feeding areas. If you are unfamiliar with where you are hunting, to locate these areas, look to see where the sun shines the most. The sun rises in the East, and shines mostly on the West, so one looks for an area to the West, in order to obtain nutriment for the food the deer eats, it must have sun exposure, a deer can die from malnutrition with a full belly of food having no nutriment in it. These feeding areas are mostly visited in the night. If one goes into them, they will find where deer had been, lain and fresh deer droppings all over the place, at that point the best you can do is to put a couple of pellets between your teeth and the lower lip and…… And next time realize that the deer is smart enough to not get his butt caught out in the open come sunrise, un-like you. Here is a little thing I call; OLD INDIAN HUNTING TRICK #4, hunt from sun up till about 10AM, go back to camp eat breakfast, go back out from 11 and hunt till around 1. Between these times the deer need to get a drink of water having chewed the cud for a few hours to help with digestion. Return to camp recharge the batteries, plan the evening hunt from 2:30ish till dark. Then head back to camp and on the way look at all the deer on the road in your head lights that out smarted you. When you arrive at camp, tell the other hunters you could have shot a deer, but youwanted a biggin. Butt, keep in mind; the first liar ain’t got a chance. Having said that; shoot quick, shoot straight, shoot often and good hunting.
