OMAR SEAWEED FARMERS RECEIVE ASSISTANCE FROM SULU GOVERNMENT December 10, 2014 - A group of Seaweed farmers from the Municipality of Omar led by Pah Asiruddin or PAH-ASI met with Sulu Governor Totoh Tan and Vice Gov Sakur Tan at Vice Governors office, Wednesday, and requested financial assistance and Additional Post Harvest Facilities,e.g.,PANTAHAN, or dryer for harvested agar-agar seaweeds. Farmers were given an initial amount of assistance to address their immediate needs. Further, Governor Tan promised to provide support to Post Harvest Facilities of seaweed farmers. PAH-ASIreceived assistance on behalf of Group, and thanked both officials, the amount will really help the seaweed farmers community in Omar municipality. he said. Vice Gov Sakur Tan encouraged FARMERS to organize themselves into a cooperative. Cooperative Movement can assists in strengthening livelihood industries, financial support to cooperative members, and many others. The Provincial Cooperative Office can assists farmers in organizing their local cooperative and orientation of members on how cooperatives operate. We are always supportive especially in uplifting the economic welfare of the community., VG Tan, told farmers. Caragenan the kind of Agar agar or seaweeds in Sulu is considered one of the best in the industry.
