OMG! Here we go again with SURVIVAL INTERNATIONAL Propaganda , about Botswana ill treating the Bushmen ( a big yawn) Just over an hour ago some distinguished gentleman from the UK who works for them attended a seminar.. actually let me rephrase that, more like ambushed me at a seminar where I was invited to talk about Botswana and the issue of HIV , .. at the end of my talk this man approaches , with his camera crew on toe and retorts that was a great talk you gave,.... what do you think about the persecution of the bushmen though! ( my first reaction was like a big WOO WRITTEN ALL OVER MY FACE ! I mean seriously , I wasnt prepared for that at all , It sapped the living energy out of me ! part of me said put him in his place , but lucky for him the better side took over ) and I said Botswana definitely has some faults in this matter , BUT just like the UK and many other democracies around the world we pride in the freedom of speech and expression however we define those freedoms within the context of our constitution first and foremost, before the international law disregarding what I just said , he went on bout the ill treatment and the removal of the Bushmen from CKG , I mean , seriously that whole thing...kid you not ! ....I said Im sorry you feel that way , but honestly Im of the opinion that you are very much ill informed ....of course he would have none of that ,he interrupts me , and says , I have a PhD in studying the aboriginal people of the world .. ( Hold on let me say this again .. the man said he has a PhD in understanding the aboriginals of the world!) I was like WOW! congratulation , that is a great achievement , how long did you study the Basarwa and he is like pardon me ? Im like the bushmen as you call them His answer was The whole entire 4 years of his study ! Im like really how much of that 4 years did you spend in Botswana .. And he is like in total ..... 4 months give or take a few weeks I said let me rephrase that , how much time did you spend in the land of the Basarwa aka the bush men ... Ohh (with a heavy british accent he goes on about how he went to a lot of place , CKG , Kanaku , Gantsi e.t.c , I mean the man knows his villages ! I will give him that ! ....However The rest of the stuff he studied from existing literature .. I did an extensive literature search on the issue and there is quite a lot of material out there! I couldnt help but say , really! from survivor international you mean, ( at this point he was very much aware that I wasnt going to play the government of Botswana bashing poppet he was hoping for in order to bolster and substantiate whatever propaganda he was cooking in his obviously documentary styled interview approach.. Im thinking dude come on now, Im in the business of making and understating documentaries myself , so you are not going to get me to say what you want to hear ) anyway He is like , well you no, the Botswana government lost the case about the bushmen to which I replied Yes and rightfully so for what they were being held accountable for ( It caught him off guard I assume , because at this point, he would do been forgiven to think and conclude that I was all about yeah power to Botswana , we are so good we are without fault ... please , the man clearly picked on the wrong guy, I mean take a seat ! Just because I keep it really and Im not afraid to voice my opinions about the health management issues in Botswana doesnt mean you can get me to say whatever the hell you want to hear! ) ..... He is like ohh its really bad what they have to go through , and I was like really ! do you no how many tribes we have in Botswana ? , yeah, 8 principal tribes and of course and minor ones , he says donning a tone with a level of authority in his voice ! I was like wow ! Which ones are the minor ones? and he couldnt answer me ! ( now dont get me wrong I believe in PHD AND ALL THAT , I mean Im going after one myself ) but really man , 3 months in Botswana and you know how the Government and its people , ( the principal tribe and the minor tribes , excluding the Basarwa of course, as he puts it ) .... conspire in ill treating the bush men , ... He is like well the case is similar to here In Australia against the aboriginals ( I thought well thats it ) Interesting! was my last word .. I mean , at this point I was thinking and wanted to say enough already! clearly this man needs to go and review his PHD ... But instead with my friendly tone , I said here is my email , ( handing him my business card) send me the thesis , I think it will be an interesting read Nice to meet you , Enjoy the rest of the evening :)
