OMG PLEASE BE FAKE Las Vegas, NV – It has now been confirmed that Floyd Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will have their long awaited rematch take place on May 2nd, this coming Spring at the MGM Grand. The news comes a year after Mayweather won against Alvarez in a majority decision at the same venue. Alvarez recently expressed his frustration with Mayweather for voicing is desire to take on Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd of the upcoming year, claiming that his offer was “disrespectful”. In his opinion, May 2nd should be reserved for Mexican fighters to give respect to their Cinco De Mayo holiday. His plan had already been to fight Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto on the same day, which would undoubtedly cause an audience divide, likely hurting all parties involved. Once former boxer and current promoter Oscar De La Hoya got wind of Mayweather’s intent, he got in contact with Manny Pacquiao’s team and confirmed that Pacquiao has no interest in fighting Mayweather this spring. De La Hoya then got in contact with Mayweather’s promoter and offered to have Canelo fight Mayweather instead. Both parties agreed, despite HBO’s dissatisfaction with the new deal, now that Canelo will be returning to Showtime. Canelo apparently has his weight more under control this time around, which will work to his advantage during training leading up to the fight. Mayweather is said to be unfazed and confident in his abilities as usual, and expects the same result as last year, while at the same time voicing his respect to Alvarez as a worthy opponent. This will undoubtedly be the biggest fight of the year, drawing a large audience and once again breathing life back into the industry.
