OMG! what lo-oo-ong delivery I just got home from! 1904 miles leaving here Saturday morning (early) and returning home (late this evening). Two pups, a Havanese and a St. Bernard/Poodle mix to Columbus GA, and then this morning (Sunday) I picked up 2 Blue French bulldogs and a smaller mottled one to bring home for one of the breeders I deal with. I saw some spectacular scenery in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. I drove on some roads Ive driven before, and some roads Ive never driven before.. One interesting thing of note: Gas prices in South Carolina and Georgia are at $2.75 per gallon in many places. I saw a few places in southern Virginia at similar prices. West Virginia was at $3.16 in most places I saw. One very exhausted driver here, who is very thankful for Gods protection and guidance. Sorry I dont have any pics...these dogs were all a handful! I can only do so much! The dogs did all ride well, no major cleanups necessary. I did take a 5.5 hour nap at the Tennessee welcome center on I-75 at Chattanooga on Sunday morning. Not as good as sleeping in my own bed, but better than no sleep at all! I have decided that I will not do many of these marathon deliveries, if for no other reason than they are very hard on me, physically and mentally. There will have to be a certain dollar amount of money to be made before I will even consider it. It has to be worth my while, because my time is valuable, and too precious to waste on a low-paying delivery run. There are other things I can do that can pay me much more. Thats what I want to be doing. Dont get me wrong, I love bringing happiness to people, seeing their eyes light up when they first see their puppy, and I have met some of the nicest people doing this. And its not solely about money for me either. Yes, I need to make enough to pay the bills, and save some. The satisfaction I get is not monetary, its in doing something positive, something that makes people happy, something that uplifts and gladdens peoples hearts. The money is what allows me to continue to do it. I dont get every delivery I bid, because some people dont want to spend what my time is worth, based on the distance involved, to free up their time to do other things while I bring their puppy to them. I understand that, and many times it is the cost of delivery that is the deciding factor. I offer a premium delivery service, and I taker very good care of the puppies I deliver. I do the extra things, like clean up their messes as soon as possible, clean up the puppy if theyve gotten it on them, change out the pad in their crate, take them out at stops to exercise and do their business, give them a little food and water if they are riding well, and sometime just hold them and talk to them, and give them comfort. I try to go above and beyond what is expected, because (a) its the right thing to do, and (b) Its what Id want if I were the customer. I treat them as if they were my own. I should charge more (its worth more), but I want to stay busy, so what I charge is worth every penny, and then some! Well, that was a bit more than I had intended to write when I sat down....Must have to do with being very tired, but still needing to wind down a bit before I go to bed. I hope it all made sense...
