ON SEPTEMBER 22 2004,Ray ‘The Big Bossman’ Traylor died aged just 41. Traylor was legitimately a prison guard in Cobb County, Georgia before starting his professional wrestling career in 1985. He began as a jobber for WCW, but was soon repackaged into Big Bubba Rogers, a silent bodyguard for Jim Cornette. He engaged in a long feud with Dusty Rhodes throughout most of 1986 before winning his first title, the UWF Heavyweight Title, the following year. In 1988, he began his first spell with the WWF and became The Big Bossman. Bossman and ‘Twin Towers’ tag partner Akeem feuded with Hulk Hogan through to 1989, but were ultimately defeated by Hogan. Bossman then had high profile feuds with Ted DiBiase, Bobby Heenan and Nailz before leaving the promotion in 1993. A brief stint in Japan followed, but it was WCW where he ended up working again. Competing as The Guardian Angel, Traylor feuded with Vader and Rick Rude, before reverting to his Big Bubba Rogers character to join the Dungeon of Doom and later, the nWo. Traylor was released from WCW in 1998 having floated around with no direction for months. He rejoined the WWF later that year, becoming Vince McMahon’s bodyguard in his feud with Steve Austin. During this time, he won the WWF Tag Team Titles alongside Ken Shamrock and was famously ‘hanged’ by The Undertaker after a Hell In A Cell Match. He would go onto have several midcard level feuds before leaving the company again in 2003, having served his last few months as a trainer at OVW. His final match took place for Ted DiBiase’s promotion in Arizona against The Tonga Kid before he suddenly died of a heart attack ( REST IN PEACE)
