ON THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY: September 1st 1966; James Brown introduces America to his latest single, Papas Got A Brand New Bag, on this nights episode of ABCs Shindig. From his album of the same name, it peaked at No8, and was his first top 10, in the US and No25 in the UK. This was his first single under a new contract that gave him higher royalty rates, producing rights and ownership of his music. It won a Grammy for Best R&B Recording and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Covered by Pat Boone, LA Guns all genres in between.
