ONE MINUTE MEDITATION FOR THE DAY Numbers 23:21 - 23 Balaams Second Oracle 21 He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The LORD his God is with him, And the shout of a King is among them. 22 God brings them out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox. 23 For there is no sorcery against Jacob, Nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob And of Israel, Oh, what God has done! INSIGHT INTO THE CHAPTERS 21-24 Long ago, someone read Balaam’s story and said, “If God can speak through a donkey, He can speak through me”–winning a few laughs, no doubt (Numbers 22:21-31). The real wonder was not the donkey’s speech but Balaam’s oracles. Is it not more impressive that a pagan sorcerer, known for the effectiveness of his curses and who ‘loved the wages of unrighteousness,’ would be inspired to prophesy the word of the LORD? It was no greater miracle for God to open the donkey’s mouth than to open Balaams eyes. Blind to his own dark heart, Balaam could see visions of Israel’s destiny. He also saw it was useless to hunt for a vantage point from which he could curse them (Numbers 23:13). From every angle, God protected Israel. A talking donkey is one thing (how many of those do we need?), but a people with “the strength of a wild ox” is another. Maybe the wild ox metaphor applies to Israels army. A more daring interpretation is that it refers to their divine King who “brought them out of Egypt.” Better to stay out of Yahweh’s path than risk being crushed. Gods unfailing love for Israel and devotion to His covenant were the guarantees that no sorcery, magic, or spell could ever work against them. We enjoy that same protection in Jesus as the Descendants of Jacob. Have a wonderful day and week ahead as we remain in the divine protection and blessings........
