OOPS!POLITICS TEARS OBA OF BENIN FAMILY APART? The latest defection of Prince Osama Erediauwa,son of the Benin Monarch to PDP who resigned his appointment with the state govt is apparently generating ripples in the royal family. Yesterday the Oba swiftly issued a press release debunking and distancing himself from the defection of his son to PDP.But just last month here,Prince Eheneden the crown prince(first son of the Benin Monarch) went to Aso Rock and told the world that his father the Great Oba of Benin has endorsed President Jonathan for re-election in 2015 but whereas at the state level it is an open secret that the Oba/Palace Chiefs openly advertise/publicise/excercise their preference,diferrence and reverence for Gov Oshiomhole and the progressives. The role they played in facilitating Oshiomholes 2012 guber election victory is still fresh in the minds of most Edolites. So cosy,rosy and tossy was their political romance that Prince Ekpen,a son of the Oba was made the Oredo Council Transition Commitee Chairman by the Comrade Governor. Now the questions running riot in my heart are: is the Oba practising political commercialism? Why is the Benin Royal Palace supporting Jonathans 2015 ambition in one breathe while at the same time dinning and wining with with Oshiomhole/APC at the state level? It would be more tolerable,honourable and adorable if all sons of the Oba can maintain some level of political consistency,celibacy and decency instead of shuttling between Aso Rock(PDP) and Edo Government House(APC) like political merchants. The on-going political brouhaha should serve as a lesson to all traditional rulers especially those who have apologetically,dramatically and mechanically made themselves the errand boys of powerful politicians and high ranking political office holders. Political prostitution should be forbidden in every royal family. You probably didnt get that,let me make it clearer with this example. Between 1999 and 2008,Prince Eheneden,first son of the Oba was appointed as ambassador to Angola and later to Italy by the PDP government. About the same period, the Osunbor Govt made another son of the monarch commissioner of finance and several children of the Palace chiefs were also given appointments. But strangely and curiously too,when Oshiomhole came on board in 2008,the Benin Royal Palace began to avoid Edo PDP like leprosy. They clung to Oshiomhole swiftly,forgetting all the goodies/juicy appointments they enjoyed during PDPs reign. But now,Prince Osama has defected to PDP and his father the Oba has openly declared that his son(Osama) ison his own. The Oba also categorically stated that in spite of Osamas defection,the Benin Palace is still standing stoutly behind Oshiomhole and his APC. With this development,is it not glaring that ominous signs of political cracks are rocking the highly revered Oba of Benin Family?
