OPEN HEAVENS March 24 Num 34 - 36 GOD’S SPOKESPERSON MEMORISE: ‘Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth: keep the door of my lips’ (Ps 14:13) READ: Exodus 4: 10- 12 ‘Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me’ (Isa 6:8). Throughout the ages, God has been looking for people he ca send. He is looking for someone who can be his spokesperson, his voice. God found such a person in Moses. From our reading, we find, surprisingly, that God chose a stammerer. Why did he not choose an orator? God wanted someone who is low of speech, because he wanted to keep his secrets secret. He wanted someone who could keep his mouth shut until God allowed him to speak. ‘Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips’ (Ps 141:3). To be God’s spokesperson is a great responsibility. He may reveal certain things to you which you are not permitted to disclose even to your spouse, for the next ten or more years. He may reveal the private lives of some people, even your leaders, to you and expect you to manage such information with discretion and discipline. Hence, to become God’s spokesperson, you must readily surrender your tongue to him. You must be: ‘Swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.’ If you have no control over your tongue, you will reveal your secrets to your enemies before you even realize it, like Samson. Can God entrust you with his secrets? If you want God to speak continually through your vocal cords, then you must consecrate your tongue to him. Let is be set apart from speaking lies, abuses, backbiting, flattery, immoral words and careless words. ‘Be ye clean that bear the vessel of the Lord.’ Engage your tongue in preaching God’s Word regularly. Let is be used in praising and worshipping God. Pray in tongues frequently. Use your tongue to bless and deliberately determine when to speak. ACTION POINT Make a covenant with your mouth only to use it as God’s voice, for good and not evil.
