OPEN LETTER TO COMRADES Dear Friends, It is now almost a week since I shockingly announced on my withdrawal to contest the position of SATUK chairman. Ever since then, many questions have been asked by friends and strong die hard supporters on why I arrived at the decision. I am a strong believer of truth as it is the only thing that remains constant and worth standing for. Through the last 6 days or so, I was moved and felt sad whenever I could stand and talk to comrades around the university giving them hanging response on why I left the chairman race and they were willing to vote me in on October 9th. To all of you who stood by me, I want to express my most sincere gratitude but always know it is not about MESHACK IAN but it is about comrades getting a “chairman”. I have taken time and reflected within myself and think that the truth couldn’t have come at a better time than this when comrades are 3 days away from making a decision that will shape and change lives in the next one year. A decision that must be guided well so that it benefits the entire student fraternity. The events of Monday the 29th of September at around 11pm are still fresh in my brain and this is what opted me to make a decision to withdraw my candidature on Tuesday 30th September 2014. “That night as I was heading home, I was held hostage by 4 men armed with pistols and warned that if I will not step down from the chairman’s race the following day, they will take away my life. They intimidated me for about 30 minutes and I was helpless and regretting why someone would go to that extend just because of student politics. Another condition was presented to Me by the 4 men that I should support RAPHAEL RAGOT PAPA and not divide votes from the Luo community. They said in my time as secretary general, I did not serve to assist the opposition CORD in any way and they need a loyal individual to chair the Technical University of Kenya. “ For the sake of my life comrades, I dropped my bid to become chair of SATUK for the forces I was fighting were greater than myself. I was threatened from reporting to the police as they warned me it will be consequential. The desire to see a good leader elected by students in my absence has made me write this letter. I have since vowed to support JAMES MAINA WACHIRA for SATUK chairman and threats through SMS have been trickling in my phone. It is better I die for the truth and because I guided people to the right path. To all of my supporters let us come out and vote for a leader who will represent comrades but not forces outside the university.
