OPEN LETTER TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR OLABISI ONABANJO UNIVERSITY Dear Sir, On behalf of all articulate, hardworking, intelligent, responsible and humble OOUites, we wish you a happy new year and compliments of the season. We pray that the almighty God who has been assisting you in directing the affairs of our great and dearly beloved ivory tower will not withdraw his support for you. As we look forward to a new year of bountiful academic activities and harvest, we wish to call the attention of our darling, attentive and caring vice chancellor to some issues concerning our dear students union election which is scheduled to come up on the 7th of January 2014, across all campuses of the university, as we will not like nor tolerate the eleventh hour interventionism (as in the case of our finalists who were unjustly disqualified, under whatever pretence or disguise that was put forward then) or after election foul cries. In our desire to ensure that the image building and rebranding process that our dear university is going through is not stalled or distorted from the angle of the student’s union, we will like to remind you sir that the constitution of the student union has stipulated certain CGPA that each and every candidates contesting in the election must have. And we have discovered over time that the management does not look into ensuring compliance with this statutory demand until after elections, by which time the elected officers will be saying that they are being witch hunted because of their union activities. In order to nip this situation in the bud before it rear its head again, we are beseeching you our dear vice chancellor to please take a personal interest in ensuring that any candidate who does not meet the academic or any other requirement for the post he/she is vying for is not allowed to contest in the elections. Especially people hoping to be president of the students union, from whom the constitution demands a minimum CGPA 3.0. Furthermore, we are beseeching you sir on behalf of all the final year students who have been told not to run and that their money will be returned to them, that they should be refunded as promised before elections could take place, cos all we’ve had is radio silence from every quarter that is responsible for refunding them. Knowing fully well that you are a caring and responsive father, we hope to see our views and recommendations acted upon as soon as possible, especially in the face of the upcoming election screening exercise. Thank you for taking your time to read through and act upon our request. Yours’ faithfully, concerned Oouites
