OPENING FOR FEMALE MEMBER ON THE FREDERICK COUNTY DEMOCRATIC STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE In last Tuesday’s election, Democrats in Frederick County elected a new Central Committee. Elected for another four-year term are five male incumbents: Bob Kresslein, Michael Sowell, Derek Shackelford, Tony Soltero and Mark Jafari; they are joined by new member Tom Gill to make up our required membership of six men. On the women’s side, Myrna Whitworth, Mari Lee and Deborah Carter are returning, along with newcomers Helena Madison and Jamie Shopland. Since there were only five women on the ballot for our required six female seats, we are one member short. With the 2014 campaign season already in high gear, we have much work to do and would like to fill this opening as soon as possible. Our by-laws state the Central Committee will be composed of six men and six women. In the event of a vacancy, the Committee will reach out to interested applicants, will interview them and select a replacement. We are now accepting applications. To qualify, you must be a female resident of Frederick County and a registered Democrat. We are looking for applicants with the time and commitment to work to grow the Democratic Party in Frederick County. The Central Committee is dedicated to supporting Democratic causes, candidates, and elected officials, and to increasing Democratic voter registration and visibility. Our activities range from recruiting candidates at all levels and campaigning for them to raising awareness of Democratic Party principles and positions on issues affecting our community, state and nation. We hold monthly meetings, which all members are expected to attend. In addition, each member chairs or co-chairs a subcommittee. Deadline for submission is Friday, July 18, 2014. The Central Committee will hold interviews with all qualified applicants on Wednesday, July 23.
