OPERS following several bills in the coming legislative session The Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) will be following several bills in the coming legislative session Chief Examiner Maggie Ice said Thursday during a board of trustees meeting. Ice said OPERS has met with Sen. Rick Brinkley, R-Owasso, for two bill requests, which she said he has agreed to carry. The first bill would clarify the eligibility for the defined contribution (DC) plan to make it clear that only those employed on more than a part-time basis will be eligible. The second bill would changes some of the language in the DC bill. Neither bill has been filed yet. There are two currently filed bills OPERS will be tracking this session, Ice said, HB1002 and SB0166. HB1002 is a shell bill by Rep. Randy McDaniel, R-Edmond, that creates the Oklahoma Employment Security Amendments Act of 2015. SB0166, by Sen. Earl Garrison, D-Muskogee, allows a retired Justice or judge to serve an elected or appointed office without losing retirement benefits from the Uniform Retirement System for Justices and Judges.
