OPM has announced a two hour delayed opening with an option to take unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework. Just a reminder that lots of feds choose to telework rather than use up leave.. In fact, lots of feds telework even on days when the government shuts down. Before I retired, I teleworked once a week and had a telework agreement in place. Part of that telework agreement stipulated that even when the government was closed for inclement weather, I had to telework or use leave. So, the government closing merely meant a building was closed, not that I had a day off. I thought it was very fair. If I had the privelege of working from home on a regular basis, the least I could do was to work through a snow day. Of course, if your power was out, you were not penalized for it. Again, it was a fair agreement. All my co-workers were happy with the arrangement. Telework is saving the government and taxpayers money by keeping people productive even during bad weather and snow days. And it is improving the quality of life for federal employees by giving them flexibility and a better work-life balance. It is a win-win situation for many.
