OPPOSE Ohio Bills HB 536 & SB 381 New Vaccine Mandates for Childcare, Vaccine Exemptions Restricted Hearings Scheduled on Wednesday November 19th From our friends at the National Vaccine Information Center Ohio residents, We wanted to encourage you to immediately contact your Ohio legislators to vigorously oppose two bills scheduled for hearings in the Ohio Legislature for Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 that add sweeping new vaccine mandates for childcare while offering unreasonable and limited vaccine exemptions. Amended HB 536 and SB 381 legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=130_SB_381> both are attempting to impose expansive new vaccine mandates for children attending day-care centers and family day-care homes including vaccine requirements for Chicken pox, Diphtheria, Haemophilis influenza type b, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Pneumococcal disease, Poliomyelitis, Rotavirus, Rubella, and Tetanus. Both bills also restrict vaccine exemptions for religious and conscientious beliefs by imposing the unreasonable burden that the exemption must be certified in writing by the childs physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant. Vaccine exemptions in current Ohio state law for school aged children law have no such restrictions. ACTION NEEDED: 1. HB 536 and SB 381 place an unnecessary burden on parents, day-care providers and family day-care homes by adding new mandates for 14 vaccines that are already available to anyone who wants them. The majority of states dont require all 14 of these vaccines for day care. . Religious and conscientious exemptions should not have to be certified by a physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant - that is what a medical exemption is for. These restrictions are expensive for families because they require unneeded extra health care provider visits, and they dont exist anywhere in other vaccine exemptions in Ohio state law. The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) works diligently to prepare and disseminate our legislative advocacy action alerts and supporting materials. We request that organizations and members of the public forward our alerts in their original form to assure consistent and accurate messaging and effective action. Please acknowledge NVIC as originators of this work when forwarding to members of the public and like-minded organizations. To receive alerts immediately, register at NVICAdvocacy.org NVICAdvocacy.org, a website dedicated to this sole purpose and provided as a free public service by NVIC.
