• ORIGIN OF THE BARANGAY By: Mr. Melecio Cabato & Mr. Benitez Acbaya-an The early settler of Sinacbat, which was earlier called “Taba-taban”, was a couple, Taguibungan (the Husband) of Namiligan, Mt. Province and Mammen (the wife) of Poblacion, Bakun, Benguet. Said couple had nothing in life. Despised everywhere they went, they moved from place to place until they reached the place called “Taba-taban” where they settled permanently. Years passed until they were blessed with eight children: one female, who was the second child, and seven males. The children’s names from oldest to the youngest were as follows: Upayan, Tokey, Yengyenga, Lalti-e, Yunga-an, Malatag, Alipit and Iwitan. It was a large family for the couple to raise so to augment their income they engaged in business by bringing their products to Ilocos Province, particularly in Tagudin where they also bought their needs in the mountains like salt, sugar, blankets and other lowland products. The goods that they can carry up the mountain were sold to other people in their place and surrounding places. They even reached Kabuguiasan of Buguias, Benguet to sell their goods. As years passed, the population of the place increased and continued the same business activity. At that time, they carried their goods going down and up the mountains using “dagi”, a knapsack-like open bag made of bamboo, which they carried on their backs especially when the load was heavy. They called this way of carrying “Sakbat ko”. When the Americans came and reached the place, they met a group of peddlers believed to be the sons of Taguibungan and Mammen carrying heavy loads on their back. The Americans asked the group the name of the place but due to their inability to speak and understand English and thinking that the Americans were asking about their loads, they answered “Sinacbat”. From then on, the place was called “Sinacbat”. B. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE BARANGAY Barangay Sinacbat is one of the seven (7) barangays of the Municipality of Bakun.
