ORO TINK TANK: WHAT PROSPECT FOR ORO PROJECT 2015? Since the return to democratic government in 1999 in Nigeria, fifteen years have passed. Dividends of democracy have been witnessed across Nigeria and including Akwa Ibom State, in areas of physical infrastructural development, general provision of social amenities, emerging politicians, etc,. Politicians of Oron origin have been actively involved in the political activities of Akwa Ibom State, and few of them have come together to form Oro Tink Tank Group which seem to call the shots regarding election and appointments of Oro indigenes into the political offices in the state. Going by history, it is time an Oro indigene freely contest and win election as governor of Akwa Ibom State, using the massive support of entire Oron people at home and in diaspora, and that of Akwa Ibom State people in general. This is because the Ibibio and Annang have taken turn respectively for eight years each to govern Akwa Ibom State, remaining Oron, being the third and last ethnic group yet to produce a governor in the state. Now for Oro to produce a governor in the state particularly regarding the Oro project 2015 general election for the office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, there is need for total cooperation, unity and firmness of purpose of all Oro sons and daughters everywhere to support their own candidate. Hence, oneness at party level delegate election with 100% Oro support. However, a critical review of the political scene in Oro Nation indicates that Oro nation suffered significant setbacks over the past fourteen years, because of the greedy and selfish attitudes of our political leaders who gang into Oro Tink Tank Group and particularly take undue advantage of Governor Godswill Akpabio’s uncommon transformation in their strides to defraud Oro and enrich themselves to the general disappointment of Oro people. The political leaders in Oro Tink Tank group have in no small way caused severe damage to Oro and they are still doing so. Comparing Oro nation with the entire Ibibio and Annang nations, Oro ha sa very long way to go by way of political and government presence, general development and progress. Whereas Oron Urban (Oron Local Government Area) which is the mother Local Government Area of Oro nation merely have few developed roads (courtesy of the Akpabio led administration) and none in Mbo, Udung Uko, Okobo and Urue Offong/ Oruko LGAs, some LGAs in Ibibio and Annang have soon developed and become urban areas and metropolitan centres in contracts awrded by the state government. This is more so because many contracts awarded to develop Oro nation were either poorly executed and/or abandoned and the contract money received and shared among the Tink Tank group members while Oro suffers. During the recent Town hall meetings of Governor Godswill Akpabio with the people of Oro at the civic centre in Oron town, the Governor stated clearly that Oro through some of its Tink Tank members have severally and collectively been coming to meet with him at night to collect money from him on several occasions, for their own selfish interest and without expressing the political interest of Oro people to him. Hence, it is now the general knowledge of the people of Oro nation that these members of Oro Tink Tank group who always appear to speak for or represent Oro people are the ones who do not want progress for Oro nation and its people, but their own personal gains. It is also the general opinion of the people that members of Oro Tink Tank group choose and or ensure that people whom they cannot control and make accountable to them alone are those who hold political offices in the state. There is also the general notion that it is if and only when Oro reject and abolish the so called Tink Tank group, and is thus united and firmly focus to elect one candidate to execute Oro project 2015 general election with 100% support for the candidate, Oro will miss this golden opportunity for a very long time and continue to suffer political neglect in the state. In this regard, Oro should have a second thought and a determined knowledge of the enemies of progress and development in its political vision, identify these enemies and prevent them from truncating its vision come 2015 in the Oro project general election. Whereas members of Oro Tink Tank group have no political aspiration to become the Governor of Akwa Ibom State in respect of Oro project 2015 general election, they stand as a block against Oro indigenes with true intention and the aspiration to do so. Whereas these Oro Tink Tank group members collect money from aspirants of Oro origin, seemingly to support the aspirants of Oro, they also collect money from aspirants from other ethnic origins in order to support them and thus stay to sabotage their own aspirants. Few of them are DR. Effiong Edunam who has never been consistent in his political roles and is known to have been cursed by his late father, late Bisshop Edunam of Methodist Church Nigeria, and his late grandfather whom he accused of witchcraft practice at the point of death. Prof Okon Eminue is another member who as a one-time chairman of Mbo Local Government Area did not impact positively on his own people in his local home nor attract any state government project to his LGA during his tenure as a state commissioner. Chief Okon Osung as a prominent leader in the democratic government of the state for eight years and in the leadership of Oro Tink Tank Group is speculated and seen as the major schemer in the Oro Tink Tank group regarding Oro project 2015, as highlighted above. Thus the involvement of cursed and dubious people in the political leadership of any community of under whatever name does not bring progress or fulfillment of aspiration to the people. It is now that Oro Tink Tank group should be totally rejected for Oro to progress and achieve Oro project 2015. God bless Oro nation, God bless Akwa Ibom State, God bless Nigeria.
